The Wagner Planner Seeks Two Assistant Editors

The Wagner Planner, the independent student journal of the Urban Planning Student Association, is seeking two Assistant Editors to begin work on the forthcoming Spring 2013 issue, which is tentatively slated for a February 2013 release. The Fall 2012 issue – Planning + Public Service – was published this week and can be downloaded here.
There are TWO Assistant Editor Positions available!

Assistant Editor – Content
The Assistant Editor for Content is responsible for creating and managing original content for The Wagner Planner. This means recruiting new writers and photographers for each issue, pitching story ideas to prospective contributors, and assisting the Chief Editor in designing the overall flow and theme of the publication. The Assistant Editor for Content must be able to pay close attention to details and work well under time pressure. Chief responsibilities of the Assistant Editor for Content include:
  • Recruiting new writers and photographers for each bi-annual issue;
  • Recruiting Wagner alumni and faculty members to contribute stories;
  • Assisting the Chief Editor in editing and reformatting articles;
  • Checking in with contributors to ensure timely submission of content;
  • Working with prospective contributors to develop story ideas;
  • Assisting the Chief Editor in planning and hosting a Spring 2013 Issue Launch Party;
  • Assisting the Chief Editor in publicizing The Wagner Planner
No prior experience in editing is required. The Assistant Editor for Content is a 1.5 -year commitment and will require 25-40 hours of work per semester.
Assistant Editor – Design
The Assistant Editor for Design is the architect of the publication’s design aesthetic.  This position requires a creative mind and a willingness to “push the envelope” to create an authentic and unique look for The Wagner Planner. Chief responsibilities of the Assistant Editor for Design include:
  • Using Adobe InDesign to create a mock up for the Spring 2013 issue;
  • Assisting the Chief Editor in editing and finalizing the publication’s design, including photo placement, page layouts, and creative graphics;
  • Incorporating publication content into the UPSA website
  • Assisting the Chief Editor in planning and hosting a Spring 2013 Issue Launch Party;
  • Assisting the Chief Editor in publicizing The Wagner Planner;
No prior experience in design is required, although experience in Adobe InDesign CS5 or CS6 is recommended. If you do not have experience, we will teach you! The Assistant Editor for Design is a 1.5 -year commitment and will require 25-40 hours of work per semester.
